Hello, I’m Sindhu!
I’m a ceramic artist and production ceramicist with a background in interaction design. After working as a User Experience Designer for five years, I've developed a deeper interest in designing tangible products for the home and gallery environments. I completed my master's at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID) and earned dual degrees in Art & Design (BA) and Information Science (BS) from the University of Michigan.
I'm particularly interested in nerikomi, a Japanese technique which involves layering and arranging colored clay to create varying patterns. I founded Sindhu Giri Ceramics, an independent ceramics business specializing in handcrafted nerikomi plates. Through my online store and in-person markets, I sell my collection of nerikomi dinnerware in four colorways that showcase vibrant color combinations and patterns.
Beyond nerikomi, my interests extend to glaze chemistry and alternative firing techniques (soda, raku, and obvara). I enjoy experimenting with materials and production processes, balancing technical precision with the spontaneity and unpredictability of ceramics. I'm particularly interested in expanding my production practice, exploring new approaches to surface design, and creating new collections of functional objects.
